Day 1 Scott and the airport shuttles will transfer you to Sydney Airport
for your flight to Lord Howe Island where we will be taken to our
accommodation for the week. Blue Lagoon Lodge ( 6 nights )
Day 2 We explore the island today with our local guide Peter Phillips,
learning all about the ‘Howe,’ what, when and where. We discover the
islander’s social history, early settlement, predators and pests, flora and
fauna, ships, flying boats and the airstrip, island tales and even buried
treasure! This evening we are out to dinner at The Golf Club.
Day 3 Turtle spotting this morning. We join Anthony, a 6th generation
islander, in a Glass Bottom Boat out on our North Bay Turtle and Nature
tour. Anthony will take you to see the coral and turtles and explain the
history as well as the Marine Life of our pristine Lagoon. Along the way
is a guided bird walk at North Bay which is a permanent Park Reserve.
Lunch on the beach before heading back to town. This afternoon we are
treated to an informative talk by renowned naturalist, photographer
and part-time museum curator Ian Hutton. In a wonderful visual
presentation, making liberal use of Ian’s incredible collection of
photographs, you will learn much about the islands’ geologic origins,
flora, fauna, evolution stories and landscape. Dinner at Coral Café
Day 4 A walk to Clear Place Point this morning. Free time this
afternoon to relax and soak up island life. This evening we enjoy dinner
at the Driftwood restaurant.
Day 5 We start the morning with a leisurely stroll. Little
Island is a gentle walk along the southwestern shoreline
through ancient forests of Banyan trees and endemic Kentia
palms. You might catch a glimpse of the incredibly rare
Providence Petrels flying around the twin peaks of Mt Gower
and Lidgbird. This afternoon we explore more of the island with
the Around the Island Scenic Boat Cruise. This breathtaking 2hr
circumnavigation of the magnificent volcanic island shows you
a different aspect as you watch the incredible bird life on the
cliffs while cruising behind the northern hills and the majestic
southern peaks. From a distance we can view Balls Pyramid,
the largest Sea Stack in the world.
Day 6 View the pristine beauty of one of the worlds
untouched reef systems this morning. This Environmental Boat
Tour focuses on exploring the coral seascape and introduces us
to some of the more unusual lagoon inhabitants. A visit to Neds
Beach with it’s golden sands and calm waters at the islands
North East to hand feed the beautiful fish. You will be
surrounded by Mullet, Wrasse, Garfish, Silver-drummer,
Spangled Emperor and Kingfish. This afternoon we head to Lord
Howe Brewery to sample the truly unique creation using
endemic plants found on the island and take an interesting tour
of the islands nursery with its special foraging and research
program.
Day 7 We take a direct flight to Sydney where the airport
shuttles are waiting to take you home.
